The Moldova Foundation
The Moldova Foundation is a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status established in the spring of 2003. Although it is incorporated in the US (Virginia) our network of members and affiliates include professionals from Australia, Germany, Israel, Moldova, Nigeria and the United States.
Today, the Moldova Foundation is the only organization outside Moldova advocating exclusively for getting more support to Moldova from Western countries (mainly US and EU). Following the footsteps of advocacy organizations that represent other ex-soviet nations (Estonians, Lithuanians, Latvians, Ukrainians, etc), the Moldova Foundation is seeking to build long-lasting ties between the West and Moldova. The foundation sponsors the most popular country portal on Moldova -- Moldova.org.
The foundation’s main institutional resource is the network of professionals, including the Washington Working Group on Moldova, a kind of 'friends of Moldova' group, that includes former US ambassadors to Moldova, senior people from Washington-based think tanks (CSIS, IRI, NDI, NED, Open Society Institute, Project on Transitional Democracies, Jamestown Foundation, Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University), individual experts. Moldovans abroad with pro-Western views and sound background and expertise are another great resource, still not fully used. Among them are employees of private corporations, international organizations, academia, graduates of Columbia, Harvard, Oxford and other leading universities.
